ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is currently grappling with internal rifts and challenges within its ranks:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and senior leader Asad Qaiser have reached out to former colleague Fawad Chaudhry, urging him to refrain from criticizing the party’s leadership. This move is aimed at addressing misunderstandings and maintaining unity within PTI.
The outreach to Fawad Chaudhry follows admissions by PTI founder Imran Khan of internal rifts and groupings within the party. Khan is set to meet with both factions today at Adiala jail.
Earlier in June, reports surfaced of 27 PTI-backed lawmakers considering resignation from the National Assembly over dissatisfaction with the party’s top leadership. This discontent highlighted challenges in securing the release of PTI founder from jail.
Omar Ayub, PTI’s Secretary-General, stepped down from his role to focus on his position as National Assembly Opposition Leader. His resignation was rejected by PTI’s core committee, emphasizing internal disagreement over leadership decisions.
Fawad Chaudhry, while critical of PTI’s current leadership, has expressed a desire to rejoin the party. However, PTI’s Information Secretary Raoof Hasan stated that those who left the party should not be welcomed back, reflecting a broader sentiment within PTI.
Overall, PTI is navigating significant internal dynamics, including public criticism among leaders and challenges in maintaining party unity amidst leadership transitions and strategic decisions.
