ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Australia’s renowned power-hitting coach, Shannon Young, has voiced strong support for Pakistan captain Babar Azam amidst recent criticism over his strike rate during the T20 World Cup. Young described Babar as a “world class player” and emphasized that Australians typically stand firmly behind their top-tier athletes.
“We back them in and we say they’ve been world class players, they’re gonna be world class players again,” Young stated, acknowledging the immense pressure and expectations placed on Babar as one of Pakistan’s finest cricketers.
Young praised Babar not only for his cricketing abilities but also for his character, noting his positive contributions through coaching at the academy and his efforts to nurture young talent in Pakistan.
Looking ahead, Young expressed his enthusiasm about bringing high-performance Australian cricketers and younger players for tours to Pakistan, potentially starting as early as April next year. He highlighted his longstanding desire to visit Pakistan and his confidence that Australians would appreciate the opportunity to experience cricket in the country firsthand.
