ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The central committee responsible for moon sighting will convene in Quetta on July 6 to observe the crescent marking the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, will preside over the meeting. Concurrently, zonal committees in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar will also gather for the same purpose.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), however, the Muharram moon is not expected to be visible today. The PMD’s statement from June 20 indicated that the new moon of Muharram will occur at 03:57 PST on July 6, with astronomical calculations suggesting no possibility of sighting it on the evening of the same day, corresponding to the 29th of Zilhij 1445 AH.
Moreover, the PMD has forecasted partly cloudy to cloudy weather across most parts of the country, which could further hinder moon visibility.
