ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Completion of Suki Kinari Hydropower Project Adds 844 MW to Pakistan’s National Grid, Boosts CPEC Achievements.
The completion of the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, which will add 844 MW of electricity to the national grid, marks a significant milestone. Wang Hui Hua of the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce highlighted the substantial achievements of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) since its inception in 2013. The 884 MW Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, worth $1.9 billion, will be completed later this year, and Energy China is prioritizing further investments in Pakistan.
Wang noted that CPEC has contributed to the construction of 510 km of highways, the addition of over 8,000 MW of electricity, and the enhancement of the national core transmission grid by 886 km. The “upgraded version of CPEC” now focuses on broader development aspects, including Gwadar port, transport infrastructure, energy, industry, people’s livelihood, innovation, environmental friendliness, and openness. He emphasized that CPEC will continue to provide vast development opportunities for Pakistan. This project is crucial for Pakistan’s energy security and economic growth. As we inaugurate this significant part of the project, we celebrate the collaborative efforts of engineers, workers, partners, and supporters. The 500KV Double Circuit Quad Bundle Transmission Line, which connects the 844 MW Suki Kinari project, symbolizes progress and our commitment to building a resilient power network, ensuring stable and efficient power transmission with reduced losses and enhanced grid stability.
This project is central to our strategy of improving grid infrastructure, which directly impacts the quality of life and supports essential services. A reliable energy supply is fundamental to economic development. The transmission line will support CPEC Industrial Zones, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and urban centers, fostering a conducive environment for investment and growth. By providing essential energy to power plants, businesses, and homes, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable economic growth. Reliable energy infrastructure attracts investment, creates jobs, and promotes economic diversification. Cooperation with Chinese companies under CPEC has boosted our technological capabilities, local capacity, and modern energy infrastructure. The unwavering commitment of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) has been vital, providing expertise, technology, and investment in numerous projects. CEEC is also dedicated to aiding Pakistan’s transition to renewable and sustainable energy. By investing in projects like the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project and other renewable initiatives, CEEC is helping Pakistan achieve long-term energy sustainability and reduce its carbon footprint. We are confident that Pakistan will overcome its energy challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and sustainable. Thank you for your dedication and support as we pave the way for a brighter future for Pakistan. Former CPEC Project Director and Senior Advisor of Energy China Pakistan, Dr. Hassan Dawood Butt, and Suki Hydro Project Administration Director, Alan Khan, were also present on this occasion.
