ISLAMABAD (PEN) : England’s women’s cricket team secured a 23-run victory on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a rain-curtailed second T20I against New Zealand at the County Ground in Hove.
With this win, the home side took a 2-0 lead over New Zealand in the five-match T20I series, having previously won the first match by 59 runs.
Due to a two-hour rain delay, the match was reduced to nine overs per side. England, batting first, posted 89-6. Alice Capsey’s quickfire 28 off 15 balls, including two fours and two sixes, was instrumental. Maia Bouchier contributed 23 off 15 balls, while Heather Knight added 15 runs. New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr took two wickets each.
In response, New Zealand lost early wickets, including Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr in the powerplay, and struggled to 12-2. Charlie Dean’s impactful over saw the dismissals of Suzie Bates and Brooke Halliday, reducing New Zealand to 31-4 in 4.5 overs.
Subsequently, Lauren Bell, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Sophie Ecclestone also took one wicket each before heavy rain interrupted play. The match concluded prematurely with New Zealand finishing on 42-5 in 6.4 overs, falling 23 runs short of the DLS par-score.
Next, the two teams will face off in Canterbury on Thursday for the third T20I of the series.
