ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The fifth day of the Paris Olympics saw Yuxi Chen and Hongchan Quan winning gold in the women’s synchronized diving 10-meter platform, beating the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea’s duet of Jin Mi Jo and Mi Rae Kim who came second, leaving Great Britain’s Toulson Lois and Andrea Spendolini with the bronze.
China’s Yawen Deng also won the gold in the women’s BMX freestyle beating Team USA’s Perris Benegas and Australia’s Natalya Diehm.
China’s Boheng Zhang also won silver in the men’s all-around gymnastics final alongside his teammate Ruoteng Xiao who won bronze, leaving Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka to go home with the gold.


China’s star swimmer Zhanle Pan won the gold in legendary fashion by breaking his world record for the men’s 100-meter swimming freestyle with a time of 46.40. Pan had set the previous world record time at 46.80 earlier this year on February 10 in the World Aquatic Championships in Qatar’s capital Doha.

China is now in first place in the current Olympic medal rankings at the end of day five with 9 gold medals leaving hosts France in second and Japan in third place.
Team USA also had a good day at the office, with a surprise victory at the quarter-finals of the men’s tennis doubles, as Austin Kracjicek and Rajeev Ram beat Spain’s tennis icon Rafael Nadal who had partnered up with the world’s number one Carlos Alcaraz. They will now progress to the semi-finals.

The much-awaited basketball game between Team USA’s star-stacked squad against exciting newcomers South Sudan, saw Lebron James lead his country to another emphatic win 103-86, progressing to the quarter-finals. The U.S. will be looking for a historic fifth straight gold medal in men’s basketball.

American swimmer Katie Ledecky broke the Olympic record that she set in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and won a mind-boggling 12th career Olympic medal, after finishing first in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle final. Ledecky has now tied Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin for the most ever medals won by an American female swimmer.


Hosts France also had a gold medal to celebrate after swimmer Leon Marchand won the Men’s 200-meter breaststroke final setting a new Olympic record. Australia’s Zac Stubblety-Cook won the silver and the Netherlands’s Casper Corbeau came in third for the bronze.
