ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lahore has introduced a new scholarship program for students at the University of Sargodha, as announced by the university.
The “Consular General Scholarships” were revealed by Zhao Shiren, the Chinese Consul General, during a recent meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas. To kick off the program, Mr. Zhao generously presented a cheque for Rs. 1 million.
These scholarships are aimed at both high-achieving and financially disadvantaged students, offering crucial support to help them overcome financial challenges and focus on their studies. The initiative underscores a commitment to educational excellence and strengthens the ties between China and Pakistan.
Vice-Chancellor Abbas expressed heartfelt thanks for the substantial contribution, emphasizing its positive impact on the students’ educational journeys. This scholarship program is part of a broader Chinese effort to support education in Pakistan. Similarly, the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, through the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Program, has been providing support to universities across the country. These scholarships are awarded based on merit and need, with half of them specifically designated for female students to help address the gender gap in higher education.
