ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Sifan Hassan, the Dutch Olympian, made a powerful statement by wearing a hijab as she accepted her gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Hassan clinched the gold in the 42.5-kilometer marathon with a record-breaking time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 55 seconds. Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa finished just three seconds behind to take the silver, while Kenya’s Hellen Obiri secured the bronze with a time of 2:23:10.
In addition to her marathon victory, Hassan had already earned bronze medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the same Games. Her remarkable achievement made her the only athlete to win medals in all three long-distance events at a single Olympic Games, highlighting her extraordinary versatility and endurance.
