ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, key witnesses Wasiq Qayoom Abbasi and Umar Tanveer Butt have retracted their earlier testimonies concerning the May 9 vandalism incident.
Wasiq Qayoom Abbasi, a former Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, and Umar Tanveer Butt have filed a petition to withdraw their Section 164 statements. Their lawyer, Faisal Malik, submitted the petition, which has now been officially recorded by the court.
In their petition, Abbasi and Butt clarify that they did not make any statements against Imran Khan, either verbally before a magistrate or in writing as an approver. They also expressed that Imran Khan has consistently promoted a message of peaceful resistance. The witnesses emphasized that the allegations they previously made against him were baseless and unfounded.
