ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United States, officially began his role in Washington on Wednesday. His first day was filled with activities and meetings, marking a busy start to his diplomatic journey.
Upon arriving in Washington, Rizwan was warmly welcomed by officials from the US State Department and staff from the Pakistani embassy. His initial task was to meet with embassy staff, where he discussed the current economic challenges facing Pakistan and set out his priorities.
Rizwan’s day continued with briefings from various department heads and a virtual meeting with the Consul Generals of Pakistan across the US. His extensive diplomatic experience, including his tenure as deputy chief of Mission at the Pakistan Embassy, has prepared him well for this role. He has previously worked alongside prominent ambassadors such as Jalil Abbas Jilani and Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
During his meetings, Rizwan emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and the US. He expressed a commitment to deepening economic ties and enhancing people-to-people connections. Rizwan also acknowledged the significant role of the Pakistani diaspora in the US, noting their importance as a bridge between the two nations.
He stressed the need for effective and result-oriented diplomacy, focusing on delivering better services to the Pakistani community abroad. His approach reflects a genuine dedication to fostering strong, meaningful connections between Pakistan and the United States.
