The steering committee overseeing the outsourcing of Islamabad International Airport has once again extended the bid submission deadline, now set for October 7, 2024.
The extension was announced following a meeting on Thursday chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During the session, the committee received a detailed update on the project’s progress from the International Finance Corporation. The discussions focused on the roles and responsibilities involved in the bidding process, as highlighted in a press release from the Deputy Prime Minister’s office.
The federal government had previously issued tenders for the 15-year outsourcing of Islamabad International Airport. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, interested bidders must submit their applications along with a Rs5,000 fee by November 8.
This move is part of a broader initiative to outsource not only Islamabad but also Karachi and Lahore airports. However, this decision has been met with strong opposition from the Employee Unions of the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan, who are concerned about the implications for airport staff and operations.
