ISLAMABAD (PEN) : An investigation has uncovered a significant corruption scandal involving Rs418.356 million in stolen items at the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company (SNGPL), prompting the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action.
The official documents have revealed that Rs413.235 million was misappropriated by certain SNGPL employees at the Central Base Manga Store in Misri Shah, Lahore. The company’s financial records indicate that pipes worth Rs418.356 million were stolen.
The scandal came to light in October 2023 when the theft of line pipes was first reported. Following a raid by the CIA police in Misri Shah and Badami Bagh, Lahore, several individuals, including the in-charge of the Manga Stores and some staff members, were apprehended. The investigation was handed over to the FIA, which subsequently registered an FIR against those involved.
An SNGPL spokesperson confirmed that senior officials were implicated in the theft. The ongoing investigation has exposed a network of collusion among certain executives and staff, who falsified transactions and manipulated records.
The FIA has submitted an interim challan to the court, while SNGPL has taken immediate action against those implicated, including terminations and other disciplinary measures. The company has also launched a forensic audit to uncover further details about the incident and ensure accountability.
