ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The federal government has allocated Rs2 billion to Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, a welfare organization dedicated to providing financial support to those in need. This funding aims to address a significant backlog of thousands of applications for medical treatment, education, and financial aid.
Previously, financial constraints had left over 28,000 applications in limbo, including more than 13,000 medical cases. The newly released funds will allow these urgent requests to be processed and met. Additionally, the funds will cover the overdue wages for thousands of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal employees, who had been waiting for their payments for two months.
The funds will be distributed across both federal and provincial offices of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most.
In the past, financial irregularities have plagued Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal. A recent audit uncovered over Rs2 billion in discrepancies, including Rs281 million that was inappropriately allocated to government employees instead of the underprivileged. The audit also revealed unauthorized transfers of Rs137 billion into a commercial bank account and Rs520 million in unutilized funds that were not returned to the national exchequer. Furthermore, Rs162.3 million was spent without proper authorization, highlighting severe issues within the organization.
Despite these challenges, the recent funding aims to address immediate needs and help restore trust in the welfare system.
