ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Over the past five years, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has allocated approximately Rs1.07 billion to national sports federations and associations. This substantial funding, detailed on the PSB’s official website, has been distributed through annual grants, special allocations, and directives from the president and prime minister to support the development of sports across the country.
The Pakistan Volleyball Federation topped the list, receiving Rs115.5 million, with a significant Rs100 million granted in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Close behind, the Pakistan Hockey Federation was awarded Rs103.65 million, including Rs59.15 million this year, reflecting the importance of hockey in Pakistan’s sporting landscape.
The Athletics Federation of Pakistan also saw considerable support, totaling Rs101.29 million over the five years, with the majority provided in the current fiscal year. Similarly, the Pakistan Netball Federation and Pakistan Taekwondo Federation received Rs70 million and Rs60.97 million respectively, underscoring the PSB’s commitment to a range of sports.
The Pakistan Tennis Federation, another major recipient, was given Rs48.68 million, and the Pakistan Squash Federation received Rs49.92 million. Other federations, including the Pakistan Chess Federation, Pakistan Karate Federation, and Pakistan Cycling Federation, also benefitted with substantial grants.
In addition to funding for federations, individual athletes received support, with boxers like M Shoaib Khan and Usman Wazir receiving Rs1.7 million and Rs2 million, respectively.
The PSB’s funding peaked in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, with Rs509.13 million distributed—an impressive increase from previous years. The 2022-2023 fiscal year saw a notable rise in allocations, totaling Rs423.29 million, reflecting a significant boost in support for the country’s sports sector.
