ISLAMABAD (PEN) : China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, expressing Beijing’s strong support for Lebanon in maintaining its sovereignty and security, especially in light of recent events. In a heartfelt statement, Wang condemned the violations following Israel’s large-scale airstrikes, which tragically resulted in the loss of 492 lives and forced tens of thousands to flee, marking one of Lebanon’s deadliest days in decades.
During their meeting in New York, Wang and Habib discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the escalating crisis. Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to standing alongside its Arab allies, including Lebanon, regardless of how the situation may shift.
He expressed deep concern over the recent attacks, highlighting the importance of protecting civilians and opposing indiscriminate violence. “Fighting violence with violence will not resolve the issues in the Middle East; it will only lead to greater humanitarian disasters,” he remarked, calling for a united response from regional countries and a clearer stance from the international community.
Wang reiterated China’s dedication to working towards peace in the region, advocating for a permanent ceasefire and the full withdrawal of troops to help facilitate a viable two-state solution. His words reflected a commitment not just to diplomacy, but to the lives and dignity of those affected by the ongoing conflict.
