ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Security forces killed two terrorists and apprehended another in the Charbagh area of Swat on Friday, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operation was carried out based on intelligence reports and is part of ongoing efforts to rid the country of terrorism.
According to ISPR, an exchange of fire occurred during the operation, resulting in the death of two terrorists. Among those killed was Attaullah, alias Mehran, a known terrorist involved in several high-profile attacks. Attaullah was also responsible for a landmine attack on a convoy of foreigners on September 22.
Another terrorist was injured and arrested during the clash. Security forces have intensified the search operation in the area to locate any remaining terrorists, according to ISPR.
The military remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country. “Security agencies are determined to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan,” ISPR reiterated.
On the other hand, the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department conducted intelligence-based operations in various cities of the province in view of terror threats and arrested 18 terrorists. The operations were carried out in Lahore, Khushab, Gujranwala, Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar, as well as Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Mandi Bahauddin and Mianwali.
Three of the terrorists were arrested in Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi and weapons and ammunition were recovered from them, officials said. Banned literature and maps were also recovered from these terrorists, the CTD officials said, adding that these terrorists wanted to spread fear and panic among the people by striking at different places.
During combing operations this week, 278 suspects were arrested, the officials added.
