ISLAMABAD (PEN) : England continued to pile on the runs on Day 4 of the first Test against Pakistan, reaching 567/3 in their first innings, taking a slender lead of 11 runs. England’s charge was led by an unbeaten partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook, who have amassed a stunning 318-run stand.
Root, playing a measured yet dominant innings, is currently on 217 runs from 325 balls, while Brook has counter-attacked with an impressive 174 from 216 balls, striking 16 boundaries and a six.
The pair has frustrated the Pakistani bowlers, who have struggled to break through during the morning session.
For Pakistan, Aamer Jamal picked up one wicket but has been on the expensive side, conceding 101 runs in his 21 overs. Agha Salman has also found it tough to contain the English batters, giving away 66 runs in 11 wicketless overs.
As drinks were taken in the first session, England’s batsmen seem determined to stretch their lead and set a massive target for Pakistan to chase.
With 75 overs left in the day, all eyes are on how high England will go and how Pakistan will respond as the match progresses.
