ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A major power breakdown occurred at the Dhabeji pumping station in Thatta, leading to the shutdown of three pumps due to a rupture in a 72-inch diameter pipeline.
The damaged pipeline, identified as pipeline number 5, supplies water to Karachi, and the breakdown has caused a suspension of more than 18 million gallons of water to the city.
According to the Waterboard, the rupture occurred due to the back pressure of water. Repair work is estimated to take between 24 to 36 hours, during which Karachi may face significant water shortages.
Authorities are working to restore the supply and complete the necessary pipeline repairs.
