ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Power distribution companies (Discos) have submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval to recover Rs 8.7 billion from electricity consumers across Pakistan. The petition is set to be discussed in a public hearing scheduled for November 20, 2024.
The proposed recovery includes a tariff increase to cover a range of charges, including capacity charges, transmission fees, market costs, system usage, and the impact of transmission and distribution (T&D) losses on fuel charge adjustments (FCA). A large portion of this, over Rs 8 billion, pertains to capacity charges for private power producers for the first quarter (July to September) of fiscal year 2024-25.
If NEPRA approves the tariff adjustments, the new charges will also apply to K-Electric, in line with federal policy aimed at maintaining uniform electricity rates across the country.
