ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received a death threat via phone call, prompting the registration of a case at Bandra Police Station in Mumbai.
The threat allegedly came from Faizan, a resident of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The call was made to the Bandra Police Station’s landline on November 5. Following the incident, a Mumbai Police team has been dispatched to Raipur to investigate further.
Indian media sources say the caller threatened to harm the Bollywood superstar if several crores weren’t paid as ransom.
“Bandra police station received a call threatening Shah Rukh Khan and asking for five million INR. An offence has been registered. No arrest has been made yet,” a senior police official said.
A case has been filed against an unidentified individual at Bandra Police Station under sections 308(4) and 351(3)(4) BNS. Details of the case are still awaited.
Shah Rukh Khan has been under heightened security for some time, particularly after receiving death threats in 2023 following the success of his films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’.
In October 2023, he was granted Y+ security, and his protection has been a priority ever since. It was reported that Shah Rukh opted not to greet fans outside his Mumbai residence, Mannat, on his birthday this year due to security concerns, though his team did not confirm or deny the rumors.
The actor has not yet publicly commented on the recent death threat.
Shah Rukh is not the only Bollywood star facing such threats. His close friend, Salman Khan, has also been targeted by threats, particularly in relation to his involvement in the blackbuck poaching case. Recently, Salman received a death threat from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, prompting an increase in his security. Salman has been provided Y+ security as well.
These threats come in the wake of the murder of political leader Baba Siddique, for which a member of Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility. The gang also issued threats against Salman Khan in the same statement. Both stars, along with the Mumbai Police, are taking extra precautions to ensure their safety.
