ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In response to a recent article published by The Guardian, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has categorically refuted the claims made, terming them as “completely untrue.” The article allegedly quoted remarks by a Chinese diplomat, which the embassy has clarified were fabricated.
The embassy stated, “The rhetoric and wording imposed is obviously not credible, lacking the basic understanding of China’s position. The author’s practice of unilaterally fabricating false information without prior consent for an interview violates professional ethics and breaches basic respect for the common understanding.”
China reiterated its firm commitment to supporting the construction of Gwadar Port and the development of Balochistan. The embassy highlighted a series of positive achievements over the past year, showcasing the depth of China-Pakistan cooperation in the region.
In March last year, China provided $100,000 in emergency cash assistance for disaster relief work in Balochistan. This was followed by the delivery of 10,000 sets of solar lighting equipment in May. In June, the Gwadar China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and a desalination plant in Gwadar were handed over to Pakistani authorities.
China also facilitated cultural and media exchanges, organizing a delegation of journalists from Balochistan to visit China in July. In August, 20,000 sets of health kits were distributed in Balochistan, reflecting China’s commitment to improving healthcare in the region.
October marked a significant milestone with the completion of the new Gwadar International Airport, while in November, delegations from various sectors in Gwadar were invited to visit China. In December, outstanding Pakistani staff working on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, including those from Balochistan, were recognized and awarded.
Further initiatives aimed at improving education in the province were also announced. The embassy revealed plans to soon award “Chinese Ambassador Scholarships” to students at Balochistan University, Sardar Bahadur Khan University, and Gwadar University.
“These tangible achievements represent China’s determination and confidence for the development of Gwadar and Balochistan,” the embassy emphasized. It added, “We sincerely hope that China-Pakistan practical cooperation and livelihood projects can better benefit the local people.”
The embassy’s statement underscores the long-standing and robust partnership between China and Pakistan, particularly in fostering development in underprivileged regions such as Balochistan.
