ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a joint initiative with China, Pakistan Railways is set to transition to solar energy, aiming to mitigate significant financial losses and establish eco-friendly infrastructure. With 100 high-electricity-consumption sites earmarked for solar conversion, projected annual savings of Rs1 billion highlight the economic benefits. Negotiations between the Pakistani government and Chinese firms signify a pivotal step towards actionable collaboration. Embracing green and sustainable development aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision, spurred by initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The feasibility study, entrusted to NESPAK, underscores the strategic planning behind this transition. Additionally, shifting residential complex electric meters to Distribution Companies and Karachi-Electric has already yielded substantial savings of Rs1.3 billion, signaling progress in financial optimization.
