ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad has launched a series of interactive sessions with Pakistani media to provide them with the latest updates on the growing Sino-Pak cooperative partnership and CPEC-related projects.
At the first interaction session on Wednesday with a group of Pakistani media at the Chinese Embassy, Political and Press Counselor Wang Shengjie announced that such an initiative would be a part of China-Pakistan Information Corridor (CPIC), which is to serve as a bridge between Pakistani and Chinese media.
“The embassy,” he said, “also wants to provide a new platform under CPIC to develop a working partnership between the two sides. The interactive sessions to be held from time to time with different media groups will help expand the coverage of positive and developmental news about Sino-Pak ties and the CPEC.”
Under the new initiative, the Embassy will continue to hold press briefings on China and China-Pak friendship. It will be an opportunity to promote mutual learning and understanding. He asserted that the Embassy wishes to closely work with electronic, digital, and print media to counter fake news that sometimes arises from vested quarters.
Wang Shengjie said that CPIC aims to mobilize the media to keep people well-informed about positive developments, particularly those occurring under the second phase of the CPEC. This phase mainly focuses on industrial, agricultural, mineral, and IT sector development, as well as those concerning public welfare.
“We want to mobilize all available resources to bridge the information gap about various aspects of the relationship occurring in various spheres of life and to adopt a holistic approach to counter unfounded news,” he said. He hoped that under CPIC, both Pakistani and Chinese media would formulate a new working mechanism for projecting development and security-related news in their true perspective.
He informed media personnel that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Information Minister Atta Ullah Tarar attach great importance to the positive proactive role of the media in implementing the second phase of CPEC on a fast-track basis, with close cooperation from the public and private sectors.
During the interactive session, the media team of the Embassy exchanged ideas with participating journalists on how to strengthen the media’s role in further boosting their cooperative ties.
Regarding the CPEC, he said they are developing it as an “Open Corridor” to welcome third-party cooperation and to combine all advantages for achieving the ultimate objective of Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
