Akbar Liaquat Ali Khan, son of former Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan, passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, he was 81.
Karachi: Akbar Liaquat Ali, son of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan who was assassinated in 1951, died in Karachi.
His nephew Kamal Liaquat Ali told private media that Akbar Liaquat had been undergoing treatment of kidney disorder and dialysis for the past two years. On Wednesday, his health deteriorated and he was rushed to the emergency of the Aga Khan University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He is survived by two daughters.
According to a private media report, Deputy Commissioner District West Karachi, Raja Tariq Chandio confirmed the death of Akbar Liaquat Ali.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Akbar Liaquat Ali and said that the government tried its best to save the life of the deceased but failed. The CM directed Commissioner East to help the heirs for the funeral arrangements.
His funeral prayers would be held on (today) after Asr at Sultan Masjid. He would be laid to rest in the DHA graveyard.
People from all walks of life, including politicians and government officials, expressed their sorrow and grief over his demise.
Akbar Liaquat was a Karachi-based businessman. He attended Belmont Preparatory School and Mill Hill School in England and studied law at King’s College London. After returning to Karachi, he ran a major trading company and remained additionally involved with airlines and travel industry as well as with other businesses for years.
