Thar coal power project under CPEC begins generating 2640MW electricity

ISLAMABAD : Under the CPEC, coal mining and power plant projects in the Thar desert have facilitated the provision of 2640MW of affordable electricity from Thar coal to Pakistan’s National Grid. The construction of a 220-Km long transmission line, connecting the Thar Coal Mine to the Mityari converter station, has been successfully concluded. This transmission line will enable the transportation of electricity from Thar coal mine Block 1. The Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), Engr Khurram Dastgir Khan, announced that the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) completed the construction in a remarkable timeframe, at a cost of approximately Rs15 billion, with relentless efforts to ensure its timely completion. This project is deemed crucial for Pakistan’s future energy requirements as it integrates coal-fired power generation from Thar into the National Grid.
