ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan and China are set to enhance economic and industrial ties through the Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ) project, integrated into the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Covering 930 hectares, including reclaimed land, the $3.5 billion project will expand Karachi Port Trust with four new berths and a modern fishing port with an export processing zone, alongside constructing 20,000 low-income housing units. This initiative is expected to bolster trade potential, attract global investors, and strengthen bilateral relations while elevating Karachi’s status to that of developed port cities. It underscores the commitment of both countries to high-quality cooperation, aiming to uplift livelihoods, propel economic growth, foster employment, increase exports, and enhance regional connectivity. Additionally, the project aims to advance the blue economy and fisheries sector, leveraging Pakistan’s coastal resources through infrastructure development and industrial cooperation.
