In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA), Mustafa Haider Syed, executive director of Pakistan China Institute, said that the bilateral ties between China and Pakistan are based on the protection of mutual core interests. He highlighted that China has always raised voice in Pakistan’s favor in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He added that in international forums like the UN Security Council, there have been attempts to malign Pakistan’s image by linking it with terrorism in the neighboring countries. He said that China has always opposed India’s efforts to advance this narrative on international forums. Mr. Syed also said that Pakistan also protects China’s core interests, such as Pakistan’s clear and blunt stance on Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan, and its support on ‘One China Policy’ and on the issues of Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
